Mural Painting Certificate Program
 Pennsylvania
College of Art & Design receives numerous requests to help with the execution of murals. These requests come from individuals who want
murals for their homes, community organizations wishing to beautify their
neighborhoods, or developers who want to enhance a project. The college
can usually recommend only a handful of local muralists and certainly
not enough to accommodate the requests.
There are a great number of painters in the area who could do mural work
if they were experienced, encouraged and networked. Find out more about

Through this series of courses, artists will learn about the basic materials
and techniques used to create large-scale interior and exterior paintings,
in addition to learning how to manage and coordinate a community mural
project.
Here are some of the topics students will learn about:
• image development
• surface preparation
• image enlargement
• selecting paint and materials
• organizing a community-based mural project

Required Courses for the Mural Painting Certificate Program:
(2 one-credit
courses and 1 non-credit workshop)
• PTG 197, Mural Painting: Methods & Materials
• PTG 198, Introduction to Mural Painting
• WS 13, Coordinating a Mural Project Workshop
Students that receive the Mural Painting Certificate are eligible to apply
for a listing in the directory of muralists on the Mural Resource Project
website.
Refer
to each new semester's course brochure for elective choices. Electives
rotate and do not all occur in one semester.
Requirements for successful completion of the Mural Painting Certificate
Program:
• submit a Mural Painting Certificate Program application and fee
• submit a personal statement and current resume
• complete 3 required mural painting courses
• achieve an overall 2.0 G.P.A. or better
